چکیده

INTRODUCTION Recently, an anatomically shaped helmet coil consisting of four curved microstrip transmission-line (MTL) elements was introduced (1). The MTL elements were combined either as a circularly polarized (CP) transmit/receive (Tx/Rx) coil (Type A) or as a CP transmit, four-channel receive array (Type B). Both types provided an almost perfect circular polarization in the central region and a linear polarization near the MTL elements. However, a transmission field (B1) with opposite rotation sense is generated between adjacent MTL elements causing reduced signal intensity and image contrast in peripheral head regions. To overcome this problem, a more advanced design with eight MTL elements was developed. To maintain a sufficiently open coil with ample space for audiovisual stimulation, the geometric length of three of the MTL elements was reduced, whereas the electric length was maintained by proper termination.

Human Brain Imaging at 9.4 Tesla Using a Combination of Traveling Wave Excitation with a 15-channel Receive-only Array

Introduction The combination of a circularly polarized (CP) volume coil for spin excitation with a multi-channel receive-only array is a successful setup for routine human brain imaging at 7 Tesla. For reception, the use of multiple surface coils is important for a high SNR and for the utilization of parallel imaging techniques. For transmission, the main strength of the CP coil is the reasonab...

1H/23Na dual-tuned RF Unicoil for human body MR imaging at 3T

[Introduction] When a radio frequency (RF) coil is designed and built for MR imaging, its performance is judged on the basis of achieving uniform imaging B1field and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). However, there is an intrinsic trade-off between B1-field uniformity and high SNR in the configuration of RF coil; a large RF coil tends to generate a more uniform B1-field but lower SNR, because i...

Highly Distributed RF Transmission with a 32-Channel Parallel Transmit System

Introduction: When RF signal gets transmitted (Tx) / detected (Rx), the B1 / B1 fields interact with the spin system of the imaged object, forming the basis of MR signal induction / detection. The concomitant E field meanwhile gives rise to RF loss in the object and dictates SAR / noise. An MR system implements / optimizes the RF electromagnetic fields for MR via the currents in an RF coil stru...

Gain of Imaging Fidelity by Employing a Higher Number of Independent Transmit Channels Together with Slice-Selective Radio-Frequency (RF) Shimming at 7T

Dielectric resonance effects and radio-frequency (RF) power deposition have become challenging issues for magnetic resonance imaging at ultrahigh-field (UHF) strengths. The use of transmit (Tx) coil arrays with independently-driven RF sources using a parallel transmission system is a promising method for alleviating the resulting RF inhomogeneities. In this study, the effect on homogeneity and ...

PURPOSE To design, evaluate, and apply a 2D 16-channel transmit/receive (TX/RX) coil array tailored for cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 7.0 T. MATERIALS AND METHODS The cardiac coil array consists of two sections each using eight elements arranged in a 2 × 4 array. Radiofrequency (RF) safety was validated by specific absorption rate (SAR) simulations. Cardiac imaging was performed...
